The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the MetroHealth Medical
Center Campus of Case Western Reserve University, a primary CWRU teaching
hospital, is recruiting for full-time research faculty. This is an exceptional
opportunity to join a 13-member, collegial department that includes NIH-funded
investigators and training program. Funded projects include identification
of nephropathy-susceptibility genes; characterization of channel function
in kidney physiology; defining mechanisms of kidney disease progression
in cell culture and animal models using molecular, genomic and genetic
approaches. M.D. investigators will devote ~80% effort to research activities
and have limited teaching and clinical responsibilities. Primary appointment
will be in the Department of Medicine. Academic rank and salary commensurate
with experience. Secondary appointments in appropriate basic science department
are available.
Required Qualifications
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. or M.D. degree. All applications are welcome

bioinformatics, (3) mass spectroscopy-based proteomics or (4) array design

The Center for Reducing
Health Disparities at Case Western Reserve University is seeking an MD
or PhD to join a productive group of scholars committed to understanding
and addressing health disparities. The Center recently received a $6 million
program project grant from the National Institutes of Health to study
health disparities related to hypertension and kidney disease. The Center
also leads the Community Engagement Core of Case Western's Clinical and
Translational Science Award. Current areas of expertise include quality
improvement, community-based participatory research, cancer prevention,
linguistic barriers, organ donation, end of life care, and medical-legal

The successful candidate
will collaborate with other faculty, community organizations, and government
agencies to develop and test interventions to reduce health disparities.
MD's will also have a clinical appointment at the MetroHealth System Campus
of Case Western Reserve University. Clinical departments that are especially
strong at MetroHealth include internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency
and trauma care, obstetrics, cancer, and physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Both MD's and PhD's will have opportunities for teaching.

or Associate Professor level. Responsibilities include management of over
320 ESRD patients along with five other clinical nephrologists, consultative
nephrology in an 800 bed teaching hospital, and training of medical students,
residents and renal fellows. Clinical research opportunities are available

department that includes NIH-funded investigators and training program.

Nephrology Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Case Western Reserve University
Job Description
and Responsibilities
Training includes two to three years of basic science or clinical research
training . Successful applicants will have the opportunity to train with
nationally recognized, NIH-funded CWRU faculty from the Departments of
Medicine, Pathology, Pediatrics, Physiology and Biophysics, and Clinical
Epidemiology and Biostatistics, whose research interests include renal
cell biology, basic and clinical transplantation immunology, human and
mouse genetics, developmental biology, polycystic kidney disease, and
ion transport. An additional year of clinical nephrology training is available
for qualified M.D. trainees.
Required qualfications
Candidates should have a M.D. or Ph.D degree. M.D. candidates generally
have completed internal medicine residency training and wish nephrology
subspecialty training. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Postdoctoral Fellow - Heart and Vascular
Research Center
Job Description and Responsibilities
A post-doctoral fellowship position is currently available to participate
in ongoing research to develop cell therapy for cardiac arrhythmias. This
exciting new field has the potential to revolutionize treatment and provide
a cure for heart disease. Ideal candidates will have a strong background
in cell biology.
Required Qualifications
MD or PhD with an emphasis in biology, medical sciences, or chemistry
is required. Previous experience with chronic animal models, laboratory

Postdoctoral Fellow - Heart and Vascular
Research Center
Job Description and Responsibilities
Full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Heart & Vascular
Research Center of the MetroHealth campus of Case Western Reserve University
to study molecular mechanisms of modulation of ion channel functions.
Several projects are available with the main focus being a better understanding
of the cardiac sodium channel, from its trafficking to its 3D structure
under normal and disease causing state (LQT3 and Brugada syndrome).
Required Qualifications
PhD or MD with an emphasis in biophysics, physiology, biology, or medical
sciences is required. Previous experience with patch-clamp and basic laboratory
skills is required. Previous experience in molecular biology, fluorescence
microscopy and protein is highly desired. A track record of publications
in PubMed-indexed journals is desirable.
The ideal applicant
will be an energetic, imaginative, self-motivated individual with biophysical
training and with a strong interest in ion channel structure and function
and in their role in cardiac arrhythmias.

Assistant II/III - Heart and Vascular Research Center
Job Description
and Responsibilities
Laboratory technician to assist in molecular, cellular, protein,
and animal studies of cardiovascular diseases under the guidance of a staff
scientist. Must have experience with most basic molecular and biochemical
techniques, including Western blotting; immunohistochemistry; PCR; cloning;
agarose and acrylamide electrophoresis; DNA and RNA extraction; plasmid
growth and isolation; virus preparation, bacterial and mammalian cell culture;
basic bioinformatics and general computer skills. Additional responsibilities
include coordinating and supporting lab activities with students and other
personnel. The candidate must be capable of exercising independent judgment
while participating in the planning of experiments and evaluating and interpreting
results.
Required
Qualifications
BA or MA in Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a
related field. Master's preferred plus a minimum of three years of experience
in basic molecular biology techniques is essential. Comparable laboratory
experience may be substituted for educational requirements. Must be highly
motivated and capable of working with others. Salary will be commensurate
with the candidate's training and experience.

Responsible for maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting,
and operation of assigned equipment. Trains research staff on proper use
of equipment and technique. Assumes responsibility for developing, conducting,

studies.
Required
Qualifications
Completion of a Bachelor's degree in a scientific field.
3-5 years in medical research laboratory with supervising and training
experience. Proficient in microscopy and in histochemical techniques.
Strong analytic skills for extraction of data from experiments. Good organization
and problem solving skills and ability to work independently. Successful

The Department of Reproductive Biology located at MHMC in the OBGYN Research
Division has openings for a 2-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. The
on-going projects focus on mechanisms of inflammation and insulin resistance
during pregnancy. Studies require a combination of molecular and cell
biology techniques applicable to human tissue and cells. They include,
although not exclusively, real-time PCR, microarrays, proteomics, and
other technical procedures related to cell signaling. Preference will
be given to individuals with experience and demonstrated ability to analyze
and organize data and write manuscripts.
